It Girl of the Month: Leigh Lezark (December Edition)

Who she is: Leigh Lezark was born in 1984 in New Jersey and is best known as one of the three Djs, in the New York based DJ trio, The MisShapes.

What she does: Model, DJ and occasional actress, Leigh moved to NYC originally to attend Hunter College.  Quickly after arriving in NY, Leigh created the MisShapes with two friends, Geordon Nicol and Greg Krelenstein.  The MisShapes quickly became the go to dj trio in NYand are well known as some of the coolest in the cool crowd.  It started in 2003 as a weekly dance party and they have since cultivated a crazy  following of fans who buy into the downtown NY/hipster lifestyle.  Leigh signed with IMG Models in May of 2008, has walked in a few fashion shows and has modeled in advertisements of many big brands (The Gap, Mango etc.)  She recently was named a "friend of Chanel" (meaning she gets to test out new products before they hit stores).  Her and the rest of The MisShapes produced a style book and Leigh herself has dabbled in photography. This girl's options are endless professionally, and she basically has her pick of which profession she would like to go after (music, modeling, photography etc).

Why we love her:  This girl's success is completely self made.  She wasn't born a socialite, just a young girl who succeeded in making it in NY on her own.  She has a serious attitude that prompted Gawker  to nickname her Princess Coldstare.  Leigh has achieved success by knowing everything there is to know about music, creating a memorable style and getting to know the right people on the scene.  She works extremely hard to make it further in the industry, and she has inspired many young girls fashion choices (just google her and see the blog threads about her).

On her style: Leigh has impeccable style.  Her signature black short hair is always perfect, she has the same expression in nearly every picture, and her outfit is always flawless.  She wears big designers well, and always wears the trends, without having a trend wear her.  She doesn't have one definite style and so you can never predict what she will wear.  She always seems to have some surprise up her sleeve when putting together outfits, whether its a piece that hasn't come out yet, an unexpected accessory or a new nail polish color (courtesy of Chanel).  She is a bit of a bad girl in the fashion industry and we just can't get enough.

Tommy Ton refers to himself as the shoe pornographer...

We have made it very clear that Tommy Ton is one of our absolute favorite fashion photographers.  We find endless inspiration in his pictures and constantly get excited when we get our hands on new photos that he has taken.  To celebrate the end of an amazing year professionally for him, Tommy is doing a few pieces discussing his photos and why he enjoys taking the pictures that he does.

It is very rare that Tommy discusses his photos, so this is a very nice surprise. The quote from Tommy above epitomizes what we love about his photos.

He will be posting more explanations of his photos as the day goes on.  Check it out here.

Lindsay Lohan's sketches for expanded 6126 line

Today the Cut published these sketches from WWD of Lindsay Lohan's expanded 6126 line.  After a short tirade from lindsay on twitter yesterday (announcing an expanded line) the sketches were quickly published.  Obviously the sketches include some Lohan staples (leggings, very short body hugging dresses) and none of the garments seem a bit surprising.  We are surprised, however, that Lindsay got back in the designing saddle so quickly after the fall at Ungaro.

Thoughts?  Is anyone looking forward to this line?  Word is it will retail between $100 and $600 and will be sold at Niemans, Macy's and Bloomingdales.

Forever 21, You have got to be kidding.

We saw this today and were immediately disgusted by Forever 21's lack of respect for the integrity of other designers.  This clear knockoff of the red bottom of Christian Louboutin shoes, proves that the large discount retailer has no intention of stopping their massive business in knock-off merchandise.  Forever 21 has been sued for copyright infringement numerous times before, but clearly that isn't stopping them now.  We are shocked that they went forward with such a blatant copy of a luxury brand item.  Shame on you Forever, we are so dissapointed!

Best Dressed Models of 2009

Altamira, is one of our favorite fashion blogs and by far our favorite place to catch pictures of models when they aren't working.  Altamira just came out with a list of the best dressed models of 2009.  They include some of our favorites, including, Byrdie Bell, Chanel Iman, Frida Gustavsson and Leigh Lezark.  We often look to models for inspiration on style and this post just reiterates how pulled together these girls' looks are.

We aren't sure what standards were used to pick the best dressed, but we do trust Altamira's taste. Check out the list here.  Agree or Disagree?

Rumor, Rumor, Rumor

All signs are pointing to a feature on some of our favorite bloggers in the March issue of Vogue.  Each blogger has inadvertantly dropped hints, and insiders are confirming that yes, Scott Schuman, Tommy Ton,  Garance, Bryan Boy and Facehunter will be shot for this issue.  We think this is a great idea (not exactly a new idea) but one that will most likely sell more issues than the past months of Vogue.  We know we will buy it just to check out this feature.

Do you think Bryan Boy and Anna discussed this when they sat two seats away from each other, front row during the SS 10 shows?

Also, these bloggers (that we are told were required to sign confidentiality agreements) should realize that most readers read all of their blogs, and therefore can put together that they were all in NY at the same time, doing something for Vogue and Anna. Just a thought!

In case you missed out on a few things this year... has recapped the year in fashion, from gaga's influence on outfits without pants to the affect of the dwindling economy on the upswing of high-low collaborations.  The year has been quite eventful, with the death of Michael Jackson and constant news on when retail sales will finally pick up.

As usual, does a great job summarizing all of the events that we need to remember, so for those of you that want to know the most important things that happened in the fashion world this year, check it out here.

The loves of our lives: Brad and Chanel

We found this picture last night, taken by Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist, of Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project.  We absolutely love Brad, and just can't get enough of this picture.  How incredible does he look?? And that bag?? We die.

Note: We got our blogs confused!  The picture is actually from jakandjil!

Tavi, Rodarte and Target, on film

We have been following Tavi for quite some time and we have found her quirky style sense, her immense intelligence and her very mature word choices incredible.  We find her point of view very refreshing and real, and we always enjoy reading her posts.  They leave us perplexed, introspective and above all inspired on a different level than many of the other blogs that we read.

In this video Tavi talks with the Rodarte girls about their collaboration with Target.  This video is very different than most, since it is shot from the perspective of a 13 year old girl.

Check it out.

Want it, Need it....

After browsing American Apparel online today, we have decided that these two styles are must haves for the winter season.  We know the body suit may seem a bit daring, but when paired with a short skirt and an off the shoulder top, we guarantee it will make an outfit complete.  We also desperately need these striped tights.  They are so much better than textured tights.  They aren't for sale yet, but we already signed up to be alerted via email, as soon as they are.

Grab the bodysuit here and check out the tights here.

And yes, the post may have been written after copious amounts of coffee....

Hardcore 80's or Whimsical 70's? You take your pick.

In Tommy Ton's new feature for (yes we admit, we basically stalk him), Tommy explores the trends of the hardcore 80s look (studs, leather, zippers, chunky buckles) being traded in for the newer fad of softer styles from the 70s (lighter colors, billowy silhouettes, feminine, light-weight fabrics).  Obviously we have majorly bought into the 80's trends.  We have embraced studs in every way that we can, we have been wearing sequins, jackets with big get the picture.

We clearly know that this trend will fade out at some point, and we will look at these items with a bit of disgust (as we always do after a trend dies out), but we are a surprised that it is already being pushed out by the very opposite trend of the whimsical 70s.

Tommy's pictures however, are inspiring us to embrace these new trends.  The slouchy sweaters, comfy scarves and neutral color palletes do seem quite enticing.

Check out Tommy's feature here for some fall dressing inspiration: Au revoir eighties
