Styling: Ten Year High School Reunion
You know how much we love styling (of any kind really), so when our friend Amanda from the blog I go You Go asked us to be a part of a styling blogger challenge, we quickly accepted. The goal is to come up with two great looks for a 10 year high school reunion at a local bar. Since this is the type of event that we frequently style women for, we jumped to the challenge.
Here is what we came up with. For a reunion like this we think it is important to portray your individual style and try and stand out a bit (think a pop of color or print that stands out). However, you must wear something that is classy and sophisticated so that your old high school friends don't think you are trying too hard, or attempting to look the way you did 10 years ago...
Each of these items can be purchased at ShopBop (with the exception of TheStylist LA dress in the first look, which can be found on our website.) Keep in mind, we did not think of budget when creating these looks (especially look 2). But, most of these pieces have alternatives that can be found on less expensive sites. If you have trouble finding similar things feel free to email us (info@thestylistla.com) or comment with questions. Our styling process usually starts with creating looks from more quality pieces and then sourcing from less expensive places (a girl can dream to afford it all right??).
Hope you enjoy!

Our Missoni for Target Must-Haves
Exactly one week from today the Missoni Collection will be available at Target (unless you are extremely lucky and live in NY and can shop the popup store on FNO) Why oh why are we not going to NY until next weekend??!
Anyways, enough complaining. You better bet we will be first in line come next Tuesday and these are the things that we will most definitely be buying.
Our Must Haves:
The swimsuit AND the floppy hat
The hooded cardigan
And all of the silk scarves....
Pretty sure we won't get out of the store with just these purchases though....

Does JCrew Do Everything Right?
Obsessed with this shoot, the wording, the outfit combos and the backdrop (LA/Hollywood). LOVE the part on the paramount lot (where one of our faves works) and at the Chateau Marmont. And most importantly, beyond obsessed with the outfits.

Now this is hilarious....
The website Modcloth is selling a "blogger writer dress" and a "blog editor dress".
We must ask, why does the blog writer look like an 8 year old and the blog editor is a tramp? (at least if she wears that to work...)
This doesn't make very much sense to us, even though we like the site.
Thoughts?

The item we currently can't live without...
Target Jeggings.
We love shopping at Target. We love their designer collaborations, the inexpensive prices and the decent quality of the clothes. However, this gem caught us by surprise. The Target jeggings are just as good as the J Brand Jeggings and they are only $19.99. We bought them on a whim, thinking, why not try them for 20 bucks? Well, the first day we wore them, we fell deeply in love. They fit so well. The wash looks expensive. And they are so darn comfortable.
We immediately went online and purchased a pair of the black jeggings.
We suggest you readers get your hands on these asap. We haven't been this excited about a product in quite some time...
Good work Target! Click here to go straight to the jeggings

Save the Date: Sample Sale June 12th
Some of our favorite ladies are putting on the Sample Sale event at the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica next Saturday June 12th from 10 AM to 3 PM. A portion of the proceeds go to a scholarship fund for USC students and also help benefit the charity Dress for Success. If you don't know much about Dress for Success, its a pretty cool concept. They basically help underpriveleged women get jobs by providing them with professional attire and a network of support and career development tools.
Soooo if you want to help out a good cause, and get some amazing deals at the same time check out this event. Alot of the designers are up and coming, so its a good place to get unique stuff.
Also, we will be providing coupons for the gift bags and a little something for the raffle....

J. Crew Keeps Stepping Up Its Game
We stumbled upon this while we were browsing J. Crew online this evening. We were looking for some preppier looks for summer, and obviously this site came to mind first. We know that head women's designer Jenna Lyon's has taken it upon herself to bring J. Crew to the forefront of the industry, but she still continues to surprise us. She has helped the company ditch the conservative and boring rep and has created fans out of some of fashion's most daring group.
We saw this lookbook and were instantly intrigued. We love that it is so clearly geared towards a younger generation, and a woman who doesn't neccesarily play by the rules.
We definitely added some of these styles to our shopping cart asap.
Keep up the good work J. Crew, we like it.

The Scarlet Room
Finding this site was our high point of this past Sunday. We were browsing through fashion blogs (as Sundays are usually reserved for) and came across an amazing outfit on Cocorosa. After briefly reading the post we were directed to The Scarlet Room, an amazing online store based out of Singapore. The prices are unreal (think forever 21) but the styles are more sophisticated. Shipping is $17 to the US, but absolutely worth it if you can get your hands on these pieces. Many things quickly sell out, but if you get on the backorder list, you are usually able to get the item.
This site has a small business feel, with a style savvy buying eye. There is also a Supplies section for those of you who like DIY projects.
Check it out. It's amazing.

Shopbop does an 80's themed styling shoot.

The girls at TheStylist have all been pretty bummed since Shopbop and Hautelook changed their websites to look more corporate and streamlined. They say the sites should be easier to navigate and better to use...but we haven't been convinced. It's just that we actually loved the older sites. We thought they were more visually appealing and FAR less boring.
Anyways, due to this, we have been holding a bit of a grudge against these two companies for the past week or so, but now Shopbop has given us a reason to get over it.
Shopbop just launched an editorial shoot entitled "80's remix. The Styling is pretty good (although we do feel it could have pushed the limits a bit more). But we understand that they are limited by using designers that are sold on the site. We do think some of the outfits were very well put together and we would absolutely die for a few pieces from the spread, specifically, the only hearts lace leggings and an amazing Michelle Mason strapless dress.
Check out the spread here.

Rodarte for Target, could it be true?
We think it is safe to say that we idolize the Rodarte girls. Their pieces are immaculate and their designs are just so lovely words can't do them justice. We adore the fact that they grew up in LA, and many of the designers that we work with have worked under them at some point. Students in LA beg to intern for them, many promising to sort sequins on the floor of their studio. We would even offer to sort sequins for a day if we got to get an insight into what goes on in these girl's world. Great news we got today: Rodarte is designing a line for Go International at Target. The sisters will design a 55 piece line set to debut in stores December 20th.We might be more excited for this than we were for Matthew Williamson's line for H&M. Or maybe its a tie.

What we are loving right now: Karina Grimaldi's Maria Romper

We saw a girl wearing this amazing romper walking around Manhattan Beach today and we had to stop her on the street and ask where she got it. To our surprise she said one of our favorite designers, Karina Grimaldi. We came straight home found it online on shopbop and bought it immediately, no questions asked.
We suggest you do the same. Happy Wednesday.

Gilt Groupe announces Gilt Fuse
Today we got a nice little email in our Inbox from Gilt announcing their newest site Gilt Fuse. This new site goes live on August 12th and is said to be Gilt's attempt to fuse fashion and affordability. We have had great luck using Gilt's original site. We've found exceptional deals and whenever we had any kind of problem, Gilt's amazing customer service people have been there to help us. Every interaction we have had with this site has been great including the amazing little notes they put in with every purchase.Gilt fuse is said to have deeper inventory (less sold out stickers??) and lower prices. We are also excited because this site promises to sell some lesser known brands, and everyone knows, finding unknown brands is one of TheStylist's favorite things.
Membership to Fuse is invitation only, but if you are already a Gilt member you are automatically in.

The Way We Wore: an amazing find in LA

Today we happened to be on La Brea in LA and stopped in to see what was going on at one of our favorite vintage shops, The Way We Wore. Little did we know, they are in the midst of a huge sale. Everything downstairs is an extra 50% off. We scooped up some amazing vintage high waisted white shorts and we spent about 45 minutes browsing through the vintage dresses.
We love vintage stuff mainly because we like to think of the places the clothes have been before we bring them home. We like to think that these white shorts spent a summer or two vacationing in Capri...
Visit the sale at The Way We Wore:

opened 11-7 Monday through Saturday

Shopbop Helps your Summer Wardrobe

With the 4th of July weekend so close, we can't help but procrastinate a little bit. We just got very excited/inspired after looking at Shopbop's ultimate summer closet. Although these looks don't really consist of dresses, we are in love with the bohemian styling. We think many of these looks would be perfect to wear to the beach or to a lazy Saturday lunch.
Check them out and get inspired for what to wear on the 4th. Speaking of, what are you wearing on the 4th?
