Doc Martin's 50th anniversary

We have alot of fond memories of doc martens:
-wearing the 3 hole styles to our Catholic middle school (they were ALL the rage)
-waiting anxiously for our parents to return from their European adventures with new styles for the kids (as they were less expensive in Europe do to exchange rates and their originating in England)
-watching the brand evolve from just a few styles in black and brown leather, to white pleather boots and leather with disco flowers painted on.

For their 50th anniversary doc martin is producing two of their most popular (and classic) styles in a new fabrication.  Using pebbled leather and gold detailing the 1460 eight hole boot and the 1461 3 hole shoe will be tweaked just a bit for the newest generation.  We actually love these new looks, they aren't too different, but modernized just enough. It will also be fun to have some shiny new doc martens, but will they be as good as the beat up, worn in ones?

Scott Sternberg from Band of Outsiders launches girl, a women's diffusion line

He already does Boy, the women's collection, which we honestly just can't get enough of.  But with the high prices (think 1700 for a blazer) we are never able to get our hands on the pieces.  We just heard news that he will be launching girl, which is a similar line with a lower price point.

We can only hope that his vision is similar with this collection and that we can get some of his great designs for a much lower cost.

Thoughts?  Do you think a lower priced line will ruin it? Or ill it be perfect for those of us who want his stuff, but can't shell out 2 grand for a jacket?

Style.com ranks the AW collections

Since we go to Style.com for all of the runway reviews anyways, we were excited to see that the site has compiled a list of the top 10 AW shows.  We pretty much agree with their list, especially putting McQueen at number 1.  We believe that his collection was objectively the best, beyond the occurrences of the last few months.

Their top 5:

1.  Alexander McQueen
2.  Burberry Prorsum
3.  Celine
4.  Chanel
5.  Dolce & Gabanna

View the rest of the list and their reasoning behind it here.

Interview with Adam Lippes

ADAM is one of our favorite lines out there.  The clothes are wearble and each collection is complete with many unique and gorgeous dresses that we would love to wear.

We also, really love Adam Lippes.  We find him intriguing, so talented, and yet so down to earth and normal.  This interview on him, done by Fashion Indie.com is a good one.  He talks about his inspiration for Fall 10 and his favorite style in that collection.

It's just a small insight into him and his life.  Check it out here.

Model of the Moment: Freja Beha Erichsen

Throughout all of the fashion shows, this face really stuck out to us.  Her look is intriguing, but we think her strength may be, just that the camera loves her.   She can pull off any type of look, from Celine's feminine simplicity to Chanel's fur and couture.

We would name all of the AW 10 shows that she walked in, but it would probably take us all day....

Here are a few of our favorite pics of her.

Alexander McQueen AW 10

Words cannot express what we want to say. His legacy lives on.

Chanel AW 10

Karl really took it to the next level with this show.  Forget barns and temporary Chanel tattoos, this show had icebergs, and fur, lots of fur.  The fur may have been fake, (thank God for PEATA's sake) but it still made quite a lasting impression.  The knitwear was beyond words, the garments leaned more towards couture than ready to wear and clothes were hardly wearable, yet we were captivated by the designs.  The tweeds were perfected and gorgeous, as can be expected from Chanel and the ice inspired jewelry fit well with the looks.

The Chanel shows are always something we look forward to.  The creativity behind such masterpieces is so inspired, that the final result is typically far beyond our expectations. Last season we were blown away by the details of the show and this year we were blown away by the construction and general aesthetics of the garments.  We found many of the pieces completely jaw dropping.  Also we loved to see some of our favorites walking in this show, Kasia, Erin, Coco Freja and Jac.

Check out our favorites above.

Thanks Fashionista.  We agree.

Tommy Ton's pictures in Colette

Colette’s Sarah Lerfel, has given a wall of her store's space to Tommy's street style photos for Style.com.  His New York, Milan and London pictures are already up, but since Paris fashion week is still going on, the Paris pictures go up daily.  We think this is a perfect place to display Tommy's pictures.  We kind of wish we could cover a wall in our bedroom with his pictures.

Maybe we should rename our blog, the shrine to Tommy Ton...thoughts?

Karl Lagerfeld AW 10

"Modern is for today" Lagerfel said before his show.  The show itself was incredible, encompassing influences from the past, present and future.  The impeccable tailoring in this collection was so obviously done by a veteran of the industry and the garments were shown off by pairing with skin tight leather bottoms.

This show was so well done, that it all just screams Karl.  We had a very hard time narrowing down our favorite looks.

Miroslava Duma

Looks like Tommy likes her as much as we do.

Isabel Marant

Mixed feelings about the Isabel Marant show....we found the deviation from her typical studded boots refreshing, and her foray into feminine styles comforting.  We want the stud and hardcore trend to be over and we really want the ethereal, feminine, softer trend to take its place.  However, in this show, we really can't decide how we feel about the capri pants and the fifties influence.  Isn't it too soon for capri's to make a comeback?? Also, as much as we wanted to love the silver one shouldered dress that Erin Wasson rocked at the end of the show, it somehow reminded us of a bad eighties prom dress.  We love Isabel so much, and we did find a few looks we would nearly die for, but overall we are quite undecided.  Thoughts?

Above are the three looks that we definitely did like.

Balmain AW 2010

We always love the Balmain shows.  Not sure whether it is the big shoulders, the interesting prints or the fun body styles that win us over.  There always seems to be the perfect juxtaposition between feminine shapes and a more hardcore rocker style (think studs, metallics etc).  Or maybe it's just the fact that these clothes seem to be made to have a good time in.

Many of our favorite models also walked in this show, Kassia Struss, Jac, Freja and Sasha.

See our faves above.

Lindsey Wixson: Our Model Pick of the Season

She's 15, she doesn't look like any other girl out there,  she's from Wichita, Kansas, and she closed Versace.  She walked in the following AW 10 shows: Missoni, Prada, Max Mara, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Bagdley Mischka, Jill Stuart, Marc by Marc, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, DKNY, Lacoste, Jason Wu, Rag and Bone, Miu Miu.  Let's be honest, this girl is killing it.

We cannot get enough of her.  Her look is so different, with her full cheeks and lips, the gap between her teeth and her endearing smile.  She looks so innocent, but walks each show with such confidence, you would think she is much older than 15.

Gabrielle Revere, the photographer that did a piece on Lindsey for LIFE magazine after the AW 10 shows says, ""She's got something, she's got that thing that defines people".

We are keeping an eye on this one, she has capitaved us more than any other model has in quite a long time, if ever.

Keep up the good work Lindsey! We will be cheering you on.

Emilio Pucci AW 10, Milan Fashion Week

Finally, some bright, flirty, flattering, exciting dresses to fall head over heals in love with.  Forget minimalism, Peter Dundas, you have found quite a fan in us.
